Numerical vs. physical testing
With numerical simulation, implant tests can be mapped virtually in a short time according to the standard or according to one’s own measurements. In virtual testing, different implant geometries and materials are checked for their functionality and durability from concept to finished product.
Compared to classical in vitro testing, in silico testing of implants is more efficient in terms of time and cost. The strength and function of a large number of variations within a product family can thus be tested in their entirety. At the same time, the potential for optimization in design and material selection can be identified. This significantly shortens development cycles and the preclinical testing effort for technical documentation.
