Orientation describes the spatial alignment of a design inside the blank and relative to the machining axes of the machine. A poor orientation creates avoidable undercuts, wastes blank height, worsens tool angles on critical surfaces and can cause fixture collisions. The same geometry can be millable or unmillable depending on its orientation.

When is orientation checked?

Before nesting. Discovering a bad tool angle during toolpath calculation means catching the problem at the most expensive possible moment.
