The blank is the raw material of dental milling, usually a disc or block of zirconia, PMMA, wax, composites or metal alloys. Blanks are a major cost factor in a milling center: every aborted job and every remake consumes material, machine time and space in the production schedule. Material type and blank height also limit which designs can be manufactured at all.
